A Guide to The Best Pubs in N7

Most people enjoy the welcoming atmosphere of a local pub and the N7 postcode has plenty to offer. From fun, quirky drinking spots to traditional boozers with long histories, Holloway and Islington has a great deal to offer.

If you are new to the area or thinking of moving in the near future, we’ve put together a guide to the best pubs in N7.

The best places for a drink in the N7 postcode area

Tufnell Park Tavern

A popular pub with the locals, the Tufnell Park Tavern can be found on 162 Tufnell Park Road. It combines a pub with a deli and a restaurant, serving up British and modern European food and you can order everything from pizzas to a hearty roast on a Sunday. It offers a great wine list with many bottles priced under £20 and be sure to head out into the garden area when the sun is out.

The Depot

The spacious design of The Depot features high ceilings and vintage wooden furniture, creating a rustic, relaxed atmosphere. It used to be a bus depot and is now used to serve up delicious craft beers and intense tasting double IPAs. For something a little lighter, The Depot has a great range of cocktails, and it follows a seasonal food menu, focussing on simple but tasty dishes. Head down to Carpenters Mews on North Road to find out for yourself.

The Duchess of Kent

You’ll find The Duchess of Kent only a short distance away from Highbury Corner. You can enjoy a great range of food and drink here, from real ales and spicy red wines, to flavoured G’n’Ts and a fantastic seasonal food menu. If you are a sports fan, Premier League and Six Nations games are usually shown here too so you can really make an afternoon or evening of it.

The Owl & Hitchhiker

The name takes inspiration from two famous local writers, Edward Lear and Douglas Adams. The interior décor is wonderfully eye-catching, complete with carvel owls, wall murals and a host of futuristic-style objects. Craft beer and ales are the specialities here, offering locals a choice from a number of London breweries. Cocktail lovers should head upstairs where live bands and DJs keep the atmosphere lively over the weekends. 471 Holloway Road is where you’ll find it.

Prince Edward

The Prince Edward is found on Parkhurst Road and offers a traditional pub experience. It was built in the late 19th century so has a long and proud history in the area, with the bar featuring a two-sided Victorian curved panelled front. It’s the perfect pub for anyone who prefers a no-frills night out, great drinks, good service and a warm atmosphere.

The Swimmer at the Grafton Arms

The Swimmer has the look and feel of what you might expect from an Islington pub, with its high ceilings and branded umbrellas out front. There is a great selection of food coming from the open kitchen and in years past the establishment also won a “Time Out Love London Award” for Best Pub in Holloway. Gin lovers will enjoy the selection on offer and there is plenty of open space to unwind in.
