What Makes Highbury Such a Fantastic Place to Live?

Great period properties, plenty of things to see and do, plus close proximity to Central London – it’s no wonder that Highbury is such a sought-after location. Situated close to ultra-trendy Islington and Camden, it’s got a pleasantly laid-back atmosphere, not to mention plenty of green space; making it feel a million miles away from the bustle of the capital.

If you’re looking for the perfect place to call home, this might well be it. Here are just a few reasons why Highbury should be high on your list of locations to consider.

Why move to Highbury?

It’s got incredible properties

One of the biggest draws about living in Highbury are the period homes. You can expect elegant four-storey Georgian terraces, stunning Victorian houses, and some truly palatial properties around the Highbury New Park and Aberdeen Park areas. There are also a few impressive modern apartments, which are ideal for young couples.

The rental market is booming

Highbury is a popular place for renters, particularly younger professionals who want easy access to Central London, without compromising on local entertainment. However, there’s plenty of demand from families too, who want to enjoy the benefits of living in the area, minus the commitment of buying. For landlords, this is good news, as there’s big potential for generating a good ROI.

It’s the perfect spot for London workers

There are several tube stations in the Highbury area; including Highbury & Islington, Finsbury Park, Drayton Park, Canonbury, and Holloway Road. Commuting times are very reasonable; for example, it takes around half an hour to get from Highbury & Islington to London Bridge station. Highbury is also served by several bus routes, taking travellers across the city.

There’s lots of entertainment

People of all ages love Highbury’s many cafes, restaurants and pubs. Alwyne Castle is one of the area’s more popular establishments, with an excellent wine list and plenty of comfy sofas to relax in. For a lively evening out, The Hen & Chickens Theatre Bar is a solid option (especially on one of their stand-up comedy nights). Arsenal fans also love the convenience of having Emirates Stadium right on the doorstep, making it easy to watch every home game of the season.

The schools are great

As you might expect from an area like this, the schools are high-performing, which is great news for families with children. North Bridge House Senior Canonbury is an independent secondary school, which was awarded ‘outstanding’ on its most recent Ofsted report. Highbury Fields School for Girls is also well regarded, as is City of London Academy Islington.

There’s greenery to enjoy

Highbury not only has plenty of entertainment on offer; it’s also got Highbury Fields – a 26-acre area of green space, that provides the ideal backdrop for a jog, or for having a picnic with the family. There are also other pleasant parks in the vicinity, like Laycock Green, and Paradise Park, which has an excellent adventure playground for children.
