About Highbury

The historic district of Highbury has a lot to offer families and young professionals. The district lies in easy reach of both Islington and Shoreditch, with their diverse range of shops and markets.

At 29 acres, Highbury Fields is the largest open space in the borough of Islington. As well as the beautiful parkland, it has various recreational facilities, including the famous Highbury Pool, that reopened in 2007 after significant refurbishment. It’s no wonder our estate agents in Highbury are experiencing increasing demand for properties for sale in this area.

Highbury has excellent transport links – Highbury and Islington tube station is on the Victoria Line, where it is just one stop to Kings Cross and three to Oxford Circus. The station is also on the London Overground line, which runs direct to Stratford and Docklands.

In addition, the area is on numerous bus routes, linking you to the whole of London.

Things to do in Highbury

Of course, one of Highbury’s main draws (or at least for football fanatics) is the closeness to Emirates Stadium. Keen Gunners supporters can stroll there in just a few minutes, which means they’ll never have to miss a game.

Rest assured though, there’s more to this area than just football. While it’s not as lively as neighbouring Islington, it offers a pleasantly laid-back atmosphere, which sometimes feels a million miles from the bustle of Central London. Highbury Fields is great for kids, with an adventure playground to enjoy, and there are several excellent pubs and restaurants. The Lamb on Holloway Road is a firm favourite with locals, as is Highbury Library, which is a chic, stylish bar.

There are some great independent shops, which adds to Highbury’s ‘villagey’ ambiance. Expect to find everything you need on your doorstep, including fruit and veg stores, a fromagerie, and even a bookshop with a licenced bar.

Property in Highbury

Football fans will be well aware that the former Arsenal ground at Highbury was demolished in 2006, when they moved up the road to the new Emirates Stadium. The two main stands are listed buildings, and have now been converted into luxury apartment blocks, forming one of the most exclusive places to live in the area.

For those with more modest budgets, there are a variety of traditional terraced homes dating from Victorian and Georgian times, as well as several new developments. Highbury Fields is famous for its highly desirable town houses on Highbury Place, Highbury Crescent and Highbury Terrace.

If you are considering a move to the area, we are one of the leading Highbury estate agents, so contact us today. Tenants will also benefit from a wealth of properties – just speak to our letting agents in Highbury to learn more.
