About Highbury

Nestled within the vibrant urban landscape of London, the historic district of Highbury offers a blend of charm, convenience, and community spirit, making it an ideal residential area for families and young professionals alike. Situated within easy reach of the bustling thoroughfares of Islington and the eclectic energy of Shoreditch, Highbury offers residents a gateway to cultural experiences, culinary delights, and diverse shopping.

At the heart of Highbury lies its crowning jewel: Highbury Fields. Spanning an expansive 29 acres, it is the largest open space in the borough of Islington, offering a welcome respite from the urban hustle and bustle. Here, amidst the expanse of parkland, residents can unwind, exercise, and connect with nature. But Highbury Fields is not merely a picturesque backdrop but a recreational activity hub. From strolls and picnics on the lush lawns to invigorating workouts at the outdoor gym, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Central to the attraction of Highbury Fields is the Highbury Leisure Centre. This beloved facility is a hub of aquatic activity with a 25-metre six-lane pool, providing a refreshing escape for swimmers of all ages and abilities. Whether seeking a leisurely dip or a rigorous workout, the Highbury Leisure Centre offers an inviting sanctuary for swimming enthusiasts, further enhancing the area’s appeal.

Property in Highbury

The transformation of Highbury from a historic football ground to a thriving residential hub showcases the evolution of urban spaces in London. Formerly the stomping ground of Arsenal Football Club, the iconic Highbury stadium made way for progress in 2006, as the team relocated to the state-of-the-art Emirates Stadium nearby. Rather than fading into obscurity, Highbury embraced its past while embracing a new future.

Preserving two of the stadium’s main stands as listed buildings demonstrates respect for the area’s heritage. These architectural relics now stand as symbols of a bygone era, repurposed into luxurious apartment blocks that attract discerning residents seeking a blend of history and modernity. The allure of residing within these hallowed grounds adds an aura of exclusivity to the neighbourhood, making it a coveted address for those who appreciate prestige and comfort.

Highbury’s charm extends beyond its opulent conversions, however. For those with more modest means, the area also offers traditional terraced homes, each bearing the hallmark of Victorian and Georgian architecture. These properties offer a glimpse into the past while providing cosy, character-filled living spaces for families and singles alike. Additionally, the area continues to evolve with several new developments, offering contemporary living options to cater to diverse tastes, preferences, and budgets.

Among the highlights of Highbury is its crown jewel, Highbury Fields, renowned for its picturesque setting and coveted real estate. The elegant townhouses that grace Highbury Place, Highbury Crescent, and Highbury Terrace epitomise refined urban living, offering a blend of historic charm and modern convenience in one of London’s most sought-after neighbourhoods.

As one of the foremost estate agents in Highbury, we can offer expert guidance to those contemplating a move to this vibrant area. We specialise in matching discerning buyers and tenants with their ideal properties. Whether you aspire to reside within the storied confines of the former stadium or seek a more traditional dwelling, our dedicated team is here to assist you every step. Reach out to our knowledgeable letting agents today to embark on your journey towards calling Highbury home.

Things to do in Highbury

Of course, one of Highbury’s main draws (or at least for football fanatics) is the closeness to Emirates Stadium. Keen Arsenal supporters can stroll there in just a few minutes, so they’ll never have to miss a game.

Rest assured, though, there’s more to this area than just football. While it’s not as lively as neighbouring Islington, it offers a pleasantly laid-back atmosphere, which sometimes feels a million miles from the bustle of Central London. Highbury Fields is excellent for kids, with an adventure playground to enjoy, and there are several excellent pubs and restaurants. The Lamb on Holloway Road is a firm favourite with locals, as is Highbury Library, which is a chic, stylish bar.

There are some great independent shops, which adds to Highbury’s ‘village’ ambience. Expect to find everything you need on your doorstep, including fruit and veg stores, a fromagerie, and a bookshop with a licenced bar.
